English Setter Club of America - December News

Happy Holidays

Hoping you have been hunting with your best friend and enjoying the cooler weather! We would like to wish all members a joyful holiday season and a Happy New Year!

Water is Off in the Clubhouse

Please note that the water in clubhouse kitchen and bathrooms are turned off for the winter. A porta john is available.

AKC Trial Help

Plans are in the works to review hosting a few AKC field trials this Spring. Please note that the field trial committees can use some new faces. There is a real chance that we may have less events for all of us to participate in. If you enjoy running your dogs, please consider volunteering to get more involved. For more information please send an email to escoa.fieldtrial@gmail.com

Pigeons

We had both coops get invaded 2 weeks ago by hawks and unfortunately lost a lot of homers. Ongoing predator issues are just part of equation and we will have a lull of birds at times. We are in week 2 of a 3 week cycle to get new birds acclimated. Both coops will have 20 birds and be ready soon.

The program is a great asset and we thank our caretaker, Tom for his daily hard work of feeding/watering the birds for member needs.

Reminder: Pigeons are not a requirement to be provided by our club. It is not part of the yearly membership fee.

Pigeons help us train our dogs and we all know they are quite valuable to the process. The club does our best to provide them but there will be lulls to pigeon numbers. Here is how you can help:

  • Last year the Board passed a Motion to limit number of pigeons to two per member at a time.

  • Be courteous to fellow members by only removing pigeons needed for the immediate training needs of a single dog. When you are done, go back to get more pigeons for the next dog..

  • Guests should not be helping themselves to pigeons. Members only please.

  • Don't be the member who starts throwing unbanded birds out to exercise them. Chances are they are not ready and there is a reason why they are not banded.

  • If you would like to volunteer to help raise pigeons and you are near the grounds quite often, please talk with our caretaker.
