ABOUT THE CLUB

English Setter Club Setter

The English Setter Club of America Inc., founded in 1905, is one of the oldest and most prestigious clubs of its kind in the United States. The Club is rich in tradition and bird dog lore. Since its inception, it has conducted field trials that are open to all pointing dog breeds, professional trainers and amateurs alike. English Setter Club of America has been described in Bird Dog journals and Sporting Dog magazines as the greatest one course trial in America, and now after one hundred years, the club is still held in the highest esteem. The club sponsors the Garden State Open Shooting Dog Championship, formally the Garden State Open All-Age Championship. This championship attracts some of the finest bird dogs and professionals in the country.

Many very important guests have visited the grounds. The AKC and National Geographic channel have utilized our grounds to a film television special about the German Shorthaired Pointer.  Many local pointing breed dog clubs lease our grounds each season to conduct their annual hunt tests, training events, field trials, and regional and national championships. As a result, the grounds are usually well-stocked with quail. The club also maintains a commercial shooting preserve. Although hunting is permitted at times for members, this is not a hunting club. Quail are never allowed to be shot, including those you supply yourself.

The farm and grounds have a manager residing on the premises. The entire operation of the English Setter Club is situated far enough back and much of it is fenced in to be considered reasonably safe for pets off the lead. Facilities include a Club House with full kitchen, members only Pet Cemetery, Barn, Sheds, Kennels, and Farmhouse. The farmhouse which is the residence of the manager is the second oldest building in Burlington County.

As a member you can enjoy a protected area where you may work and exercise your field dog. The club also conducts trap shooting and many other activities including an annual picnic and Lee Bird field trial. Our special dual sanctioned Lee Bird trial attracts both AKC and American Field professional and amateur participants. If you are interested in Joining our Club you must fill out our online membership form, be nominated by two current members in good standing, and be approved by the Board of Directors.
