Dear Members,

By way of this letter the Officers, Board of Directors and I want to inform you of a recent occurrence at the club and actions that followed subsequent to the matter, Unfortunately, an altercation between two members' dogs recently took place on the grounds while both were training. The matter was brought to the board's attention and history has shown that the dog that initiated the fight has been involved in previous altercations. The owner is a long-time member in good standing with the club, who is held in high regard. After the matter was brought to light, the board conducted an inquiry and the decision was made to not allow that dog access to club grounds. The owner attended the subsequent Board meeting to discuss the issue personally and review the matter.

The board, keeping in mind the safety of all the club members, their animals, overall liability of the club and compliance issues with our insurance carrier, decided it is in the best interest of all parties concerned, including the general membership, to uphold the decision to restrict this dog from being on the club grounds and all club sanctioned events, irrespective of venue. The board did not come to this decision lightly and considered other remedies that may allow some limited access. Ultimately, after careful considerations it was determined those options to not be without risk. As noted, the owner is and will remain a valued member of the club, and no further actions are being considered.

It is most appropriate at this time to remind the members and your guests that you are responsible for your dogs and accountable for their actions. We all know something unexpected can happen at any time but please understand that aggressive behavior from any dogs towards people or other dogs that is deemed to be problematic is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. In the event that such behavior is encountered, it is in everyone's best interest to deal with the issue. If need be, advise a board member of such an incident.
